Films and storyboards are not in the app yet. This page explains the idea and what you can do today.
What is planned
Today a Rift video is up to 15 seconds from one Make. Some stories need more room: a birthday tribute, a trip, a short tale about your dog. The idea is for Spark to lay out that longer story as a storyboard, a plan of shots in order, so you can read it, change it and agree to it before anything is made.
What it would feel like
You would tell Spark the story in a few lines. Spark would answer with a storyboard: scene one, scene two, scene three, each with a short description. You could reorder, remove or reword a scene. Only after that would you tap Make. As with every Make in Rift, the price would show on the button first.
Not in the app yet
Films and storyboards are not in Rift today, and we are not giving a date. We will not point you to a feature that is not there. This page is marked “upcoming” so that nobody mistakes it for something you can use now.
What to do today
You can still tell a longer story with the Rift you have:
- Break the story into scenes. Three to five short scenes work well.
- Make one video per scene. Tell Spark each scene in a line, and keep the same character from scene to scene by adding yourself, a friend or your pet as a character once.
- Post them in order. Add the scenes in a row in the app where you post, and add sound there.
Tips for planning a story
- One idea per scene. It keeps each video clean.
- Reuse the same characters. A saved character keeps the same face and look across every video.
- End each scene on a clear moment. It makes the next one easier to connect.
Why we are not rushing it
A longer story needs more than longer videos. It needs the same faces from scene to scene, a plan you can read, and a price you can see before it starts. We would rather ship it when those parts work together than put up a page that promises it early. If you have a story you would want to tell this way, keep it in your notes. The scenes you write today will translate directly into a storyboard later.
Want to know when it ships?
This page will change when films and storyboards reach the app. Until then, Rift on iPhone is for single videos of up to 15 seconds.
