Are AI video apps safe for teens?

Updated · Reviewed by The Rift team

Short answer

It depends on the app and how it is used. Check the age rating on the App Store listing, read what the app does with photos, and talk about consent: no one's face without their yes. Look for clear ways to delete. Rift, where Spark, Rift's video agent, plans each video, asks before learning from videos, off until you say yes, and lets you delete videos in Library and your account in Profile.

No app is safe by default. Safety comes from the app’s settings, the rules at home and what gets posted.

What you need

Step by step

  1. Read the age rating on the App Store listing.
  2. Try the app together, from Share or Spark to the Draft and Make.
  3. Agree on consent: ask before using anyone else’s photo.
  4. Check the settings: Rift asks after the first video whether it may learn from videos, and it is off until you say yes.
  5. Know how to delete. Videos go in Library; account and data go in Profile.

Yes. Delete videos in Library, or delete the account and data in Profile.

What should we talk about first?

Consent. No one's photo is used without their yes, and nothing is posted that could hurt someone.
