How to make a vanish or levitate video of yourself from a photo

Updated · Reviewed by The Rift team

Short answer

Add one clear photo of yourself to Rift and tell Spark the effect, such as vanishing in a puff of smoke or floating a metre off the ground. Spark shows a Draft with the price on the Make button. Tap Make and you get the effect in a video of up to 15 seconds in your Library.

Vanishing and floating are two of the simplest effects to understand and the hardest to film. You need a locked camera, an empty shot and a lot of editing. With Rift, you describe it.

What you need

Step by step

  1. Add the photo to Rift.
  2. Name the effect and the ending in one line.
  3. Check the Draft. The price is on the Make button.
  4. Tap Make. Watch it in Library.
  5. Tune. If the vanish looks abrupt, ask for a slower fade and Make again.

Questions people ask

Do I need to film anything?

No. One photo is enough.

Can I vanish and come back?

Yes. Say 'vanish, then reappear' and name where.

Can I levitate a friend or a pet?

Yes. Use a clear photo of them.

What background works best?

A plain or tidy one. A cluttered room hides the effect.

Can I choose how I vanish?

Yes. Say it in your line, such as a puff of smoke, and check the Draft.
