What is the earth zoom trend and how do you make one?

Updated · Reviewed by The Rift team

Short answer

The earth zoom trend is one continuous camera move between a person and outer space: it starts close on someone, pulls up over their street, their city and the planet, or dives the other way. It turns a normal photo into an epic opening. In Rift, add your photo, tell Spark which way the camera goes, and tap Make for a video up to 15 seconds.

Add one photo of yourself and tell Spark whether the camera pulls up into space or dives back down. Rift makes the whole move as one shot.

How the format works

Make your own in Rift

  1. Add a photo of you, your pet or your place.
  2. Tell Spark: “Start close on me waving, then the camera pulls up all the way to space.”
  3. Check the Draft and tap Make.

Other one-photo effects are in how to turn one photo into a bullet-time, clone or earth zoom video.

Questions people ask

Zoom in or zoom out?

Both. Out is the classic. In, from space down to you, makes a strong opening.

Will it show my real street?

It shows a believable street and city, not a map of your address.

Can I use a photo of my house or shop?

Yes. The zoom can start or end on a place.

Can I start the zoom on my pet?

Yes. Add a photo of your pet and tell Spark the camera starts close on them.
