How to make a Valentine's Day video for a long-distance partner

Updated · Reviewed by The Rift team

Short answer

Add one photo of yourself and one of your partner to Rift and tell Spark the date, such as the two of you at a candlelit table in Paris. Spark brings you into the same place and sets up a Draft. Tap Make and send a video of up to 15 seconds from your Library. Rift is an iPhone app.

When you cannot be in the same room, a photo of a restaurant table with two empty chairs is not enough. A short video of the two of you at that table is a gift your partner can watch again.

What you need

Step by step

  1. Tell Spark the date. Say the place, the time and what you are doing.
  2. Add both photos. Pick yourself and your partner from the camera roll.
  3. Check the Draft. Spark shows how you meet in the scene. Reply to adjust.
  4. Make. Tap Make. You can leave the app, and Spark tells you when it is ready.
  5. Send it. Find the video in your Library and message it to your partner.

Questions people ask

When is Valentine's Day?

Sunday 14 February 2027. Make your video a few days early so you can try a second version.

Do we need a photo together?

No. Two separate photos work, which is the point for long-distance couples.

Can I pick the place?

Yes. Say it in your line, such as a rooftop, a beach or a small cafe.

Can I add a message over the video?

Rift does not add text over video yet. Write your message when you send it.

Can I make one for an anniversary instead?

Yes. Add the photos and tell Spark the place and the mood.
