How to test two versions of the same ad with a new cast and a new place

Updated · Reviewed by The Rift team

Short answer

Share the ad to Rift and add a photo of your product. Tell Spark the cast and place for version one, check the Draft and tap Make. Then change the person and the setting and Make a second version. Each video is up to 15 seconds in your Library, so you can post both and see which one holds attention.

An ad idea that works once can work again with a different person, place or mood. The hard part used to be filming each version. With Rift you change the cast and the setting in a line and Make another.

This is the follow-up to remake an ad you saw with your own product.

What you need

Step by step

  1. Share the ad. Tap Share and pick Rift.
  2. Add your product photo.
  3. Describe version one. The cast, the place and the mood.
  4. Check the Draft, then Make. Save to Library.
  5. Change one thing and Make again. For version two, change the cast or the place, not both.

Tips for a clean result

Limits

Rift makes the video. Posting, ad buying and results live in the apps you use for that.

Questions people ask

Can Rift make both versions in one go?

Videos are made one at a time. Use two Drafts, one per version.

Is it okay to copy an ad I saw?

Remake the idea with your product, your cast and your setting. Do not copy another brand's logo or characters.

How many versions should I test?

Two is a good start. Keep the product the same and change one thing at a time.

Does Rift tell me which version wins?

No. You see that in the results of the app you post to.

Should I change both the person and the place?

Change one thing at a time if you want a clear answer about what worked. Change both for a bigger contrast.
