How to swap the car in a video for your own car

Updated · Reviewed by The Rift team

Short answer

Share the car video to Rift, add a sharp photo of your own car, and tell Spark to swap the car and keep everything else. Spark plans the shots and shows a Draft. Tap Make and you get a version of up to 15 seconds with your car in the same scene. Check small details like wheels and plate.

You see a drift video, a car reveal or a drive-by that looks great, and you want it with your car. Rift can keep the scene and swap the car.

Tips for a clean result

Limits

Frame-for-frame edits of your own clip, with the same cuts and camera, are made but not yet measured, so treat the first result as a take to check.

Questions people ask

Will the camera move and the road stay the same?

Spark keeps the scene and the move as closely as it can. Small details can differ, so check the result and make another take if needed.

What if the original car is a different shape?

Sedans, hatchbacks and SUVs can swap. A big difference in shape, like a pickup for a sports car, can look odd. Pick a similar body shape.

Can I swap the colour only?

Yes. Tell Spark to keep the car and change the colour, or the wheels.

Can I use a clip that isn't mine?

Use clips you made or have the right to use. Rift remakes the idea with your own car.

Should my car photo match the angle of the car in the video?

It helps. A sharp, well-lit photo from a similar angle gives Spark the best view to work from.
