How to see yourself in the 1920s or the 1980s in a short video

Updated · Reviewed by The Rift team

Short answer

Add one clear photo of yourself in Rift and tell Spark, Rift's video agent, the decade and the place, such as a 1920s jazz club or a 1980s arcade with neon and big hair. Spark plans the shots and shows a Draft. Tap Make and you get a short video of up to 15 seconds of you in that era.

Add a photo of yourself and name the decade and the place, and Spark puts you in that era. If you want a trend instead of a still scene, see remaking a trend in a different decade, or try the vintage home movie look.

What you need

Step by step

  1. Add your photo in Spark, or pick yourself as a character.
  2. Name the decade and the place. Add one or two details like clothes and light.
  3. Check the Draft. Ask for a change if the era is off.
  4. Make. Tap Make. The price is shown on the Make button before you tap.
  5. Watch it in your Library.

Questions people ask

Which decades work?

Any you can describe, from the 1920s to the 2000s. The clearer the look, the better the match.

Can I include my friends?

Yes. Add each friend as a character and say who is where. Ask them first.

Will it look like an old film?

You can ask for it. Say "grainy 1980s home video" or "black and white 1920s" and Spark sets up the look.

Can I use a trend video from that era?

Yes. Share the video into Rift and tell Spark the decade. See the trend remake guide below.
