How to make a dance video from a photo of yourself

Updated · Reviewed by The Rift team

Short answer

Pick a dance clip, tap Share, and choose Rift. Spark, Rift's video agent, asks for one photo of you, plans the shots and shows a Draft. Check it, tap Make, and you get the same dance with you in it, up to 15 seconds, saved to your Library. Rift is an iPhone app on the App Store.

Add a photo of yourself and a dance clip, and Spark puts you in the choreography. You skip the dozen takes and the spare wall. The same steps work for any trend in putting yourself in a TikTok trend.

What you need

Step by step

  1. Choose the dance. Open the clip. A single dancer, filmed from a steady camera, gives the cleanest result.
  2. Share it into Rift. Tap Share, then Rift. If it isn’t in the row, tap More and turn it on once.
  3. Add your photo. Spark watches the clip, then asks who should dance. Add your photo, or pick yourself if you’ve set yourself up before.
  4. Tell Spark what to keep. One line is enough. Spark plans the shots and shows a Draft with the price on the Make button.
  5. Make. Tap Make. You can leave the app. Spark tells you when it’s ready and it lands in your Library.

Tips

Beyond dancing

The same approach works for any move you can see: a sports celebration, a catwalk turn, a wedding-dance entrance, a stretch routine. If you can watch it, you can star in it.

Questions people ask

Do I need a video of myself dancing?

No. One photo is enough. Spark takes the moves from the dance clip and puts you in them.

Can I change the place I dance in?

Yes. Say 'same dance, but on a rooftop' and check the Draft.

Can the dance be longer than 15 seconds?

No. A Rift video is up to 15 seconds and one shot of Make. Choose the strongest 15 seconds of the dance.

Can I use a dance from my camera roll?

Yes. Add the clip from your camera roll, or tap Share on it in TikTok, Instagram or YouTube.

Can I dance with a friend?

Yes, if the clip has two dancers. Add both photos and say who plays which dancer.
