How to make a UGC-style product demo video without hiring a creator

Updated · Reviewed by The Rift team

Short answer

Add a photo of your product to Rift and tell Spark the demo, such as a hand lifting it off a bathroom shelf and turning it to the camera in a phone-filmed style. Check the Draft and tap Make. You get a silent, handheld-looking clip of up to 15 seconds in your Library. Talking to camera is not in Rift yet.

Plain, phone-style product clips often hold attention, because they look like someone showing a friend. Hiring a creator to film one means shipping a product, waiting and paying. Spark can make the silent version from your product photo.

What you need

Step by step

  1. Add the product photo. Open Rift and add it.
  2. Describe the demo. Who holds it, where, and what they do with it.
  3. Say the style. “Filmed on a phone, natural light, slightly handheld.”
  4. Check the Draft. Spark shows the shot and what stays fixed: your product and its label.
  5. Make. Tap Make. Save to Library and add words in the post you share to.

If your goal is to copy a demo style you saw, remake an ad you saw with your own product is the matching guide.

Tips for a clean result

Beyond one demo

Make three clips with different people and rooms for the same product, and see which one people watch longest.

Questions people ask

Can the person in the video talk about the product?

Not yet. Talking to camera and speech are not in Rift yet. Rift makes a silent demo, so show the product in use and say the words in the post.

What does UGC-style mean?

User-generated style: a plain, phone-filmed look with a real room and a hand in frame, the way a customer would film it, rather than a polished studio ad.

Can I use a face of someone real?

Use your own photo or a Rift character. Do not use a photo of another person without their say.

Can I show the product being used, not just held?

Yes. Ask for the action: pumping, spraying, pouring, opening, putting on.

Can I make a version in another setting, like a kitchen?

Yes. Change the setting in your line, such as a bathroom shelf to a kitchen counter, and Make again.
