How to make a POV video without filming anything

Updated · Reviewed by The Rift team

Short answer

Tell Spark, Rift's video agent, the moment as if the viewer is living it: 'POV: you open the door and a giant cat is in your kitchen.' Say the camera is first person or at eye level. Spark plans the shot and shows a Draft; tap Make for a video up to 15 seconds. Add a photo if you, your pet or your product should appear.

Write the moment as a POV line, add a photo if you, your pet or your product should appear, and Spark makes the video of it. It’s one of the easiest formats to make without a camera.

What you need

Step by step

  1. Write the POV line you’ll post with.
  2. Tell Spark the moment, with the camera: “first person, eye level, slow”.
  3. Add a photo if you, your pet or your product appears.
  4. Check the Draft and tap Make.
  5. Post with the POV line on top in your posting app.

Tips

Questions people ask

What does POV mean in a video?

Point of view. The camera is the viewer's eyes, or the clip shows a moment framed as "this is you".

Do I need to be in it?

No. Many POV videos show only what the viewer sees. Add your photo if you want to appear.

Can I add the POV text on top?

Text over the video isn't in the app yet. Add the line when you post, where it usually goes anyway.

Can it be a story?

A video is one shot of up to 15 seconds, so pick the one moment the line sets up.
