How to make an expectation vs reality video

Updated · Reviewed by The Rift team

Short answer

Make two short clips and show them side by side in your posting app. In Rift, give Spark, Rift's video agent, a photo of the polished version and say what you expected, then make a second Draft for what really happened. Check each Draft, tap Make, and find both videos, up to 15 seconds each, in your Library.

Make two short clips, one for what you expected and one for what really happened, and show them side by side in your posting app. Each clip is its own Draft in Rift.

What you need

Step by step

  1. Open Spark and describe the expectation: the perfect version.
  2. Check the Draft and tap Make. This is clip one.
  3. Start again with the reality, ideally from your own photo of how it turned out.
  4. Check that Draft and tap Make for clip two.
  5. Find both in your Library and join them in the app you post from.

Tips

Questions people ask

Can Rift put both halves in one video?

No. A video is one shot, so make the two halves as two videos and put them together in your posting app.

Do I need a photo of the real result?

It helps. A photo of the burnt cake or the crooked shelf keeps the reality half honest.

Can I add the words Expectation and Reality?

Text over video isn't in the app yet. Add the words in your posting or editing app.

Can it work for a plan that went wrong?

Yes. Describe the plan in the first Draft and the mess in the second.
